In this blog we take a closer look at Aviva’s optional add-on benefit called ‘Global treatment cover’.
Global treatment cover gives the person covered or their child (up to age 18 or 21 if in full time education), the option to be treated at the best hospitals in the world, by a leading expert for their medical condition.
Global Treatment cover six specific conditions:
- Cancer
- Coronary artery bypass surgery
- Heart valve replacement or repair
- Neurosurgery
- Live-donor organ transplants
- Bone marrow transplant
Full terms and conditions will be provided if this cover is of interest to you.
The maximum monetary amount that can be claimed is £1m per year or £2m in total. These maximums are available to everyone (adult and children) covered on a policy.
Below are the medical expenses that are covered:
- Hospital charges
- Day clinic
- Consultant treatment
- Hospitalisation
- Medication
- Hospital transfers
Other expenses that are covered are:
- Travel & accommodation (economy class flights and accommodation for the life assured and a companion. If a child is claiming, 2 companions can travel)
- Repatriation expenses
As at today’s date, the cost of this add-on benefit is £3 per life assured, per month. The cost of cover is reviewed periodically by Aviva and can change. The benefit can be removed at any time if it is no longer required or you do not accept a price change.
To be able to add this benefit, you need to take out life cover, critical illness cover or income protection for at least the minimum premium set by Aviva. It cannot be added to a plan that is already in force.

Please note that cover with Aviva may not be suitable for everyone and it requires acceptance by the provider following completion of their medical questionnaire. We offer advice from a panel of leading insurers and we will assess the suitability of cover using our thorough advice process.
