Things to Remember When Moving into a New House. Moving into a new house can be stressful with so many things to do & remember. Here are some items to add to your to-do list that you may not have thought of.
Things to Remember When Moving into a New House. Start packing early:
Starting to pack away items that you don’t need every day can be really helpful; this means less things to pack away last minute, and therefore less stress the closer moving day gets!
Things to Remember When Moving into a New House. Label all your boxes:
Labelling each box with the room you want them in will help your removal company or your family & friends who are helping you. Add a brief description of the contents so you can find something if needed. You don’t want to open 10 boxes to find the TV remote! It’s also important to make note of any boxes that are heavy or contain fragile items so they can be handled accordingly.
Things to Remember When Moving into a New House. Declutter as you pack:
This not only means less things to sort when you move in, but also gives you a chance to start fresh in your new home. You can take unwanted items to a charity shop, or you could sell your items through online marketplaces such as Facebook or Vinted.
Things to Remember When Moving into a New House. Change the locks:
You don’t know who the previous owner has given keys to, so for absolute peace of mind, you could change the locks.
Who to notify of your address change:
GP Surgery
Dentist
Optician
Vet
Electoral Roll
Your Bank/Building Society for all accounts
DVLA (car tax & Driving Licence)
Insurance Providers (Car, Life, Breakdown Cover). Your home insurance company should already know!!
Mobile Phone provider

Credit/Store Card companies
Loan/Hire Purchase companies
Your employer
Your child’s school
Any memberships/clubs (Gym)
You can set up a Royal Mail redirect on your post for 3 months. This will ensure any correspondence will still get to you and can remind you of any companies you have missed.
Say hi!
Introduce yourself to your new neighbours. They can tell you what day the bins are collected. Making a potential relationship can be useful if you go on holiday and need someone to feed the cat!
